Background:
- We have all been sick
- Those who know Jesus as Lord and Savior know it was not us, but Jesus cured, healed us, and made us whole
- Jesus is the great physician
- If Jesus does not bless the medicine we will not be healed
- Jesus shows mercy and compassion to the outcast leper and gentile (Matthew 8)
- Now he is showing compassion to a woman and his healing is an important part of his ministry
- He was teaching and healing
- His miracles authenticated his teaching and preaching proving he was truly from God
- He healed both physical and spiritual sickness
- Physical healing is not the most important healing we can get (Matthew 9:1-2)
- Sins are the most important thing to be healed first
- All of us will get sick and the Lord will heal our bodies
- Spiritual healing is the most important thing that must take place
- We must know Jesus for the pardoning of our sins
- It is when we have those great times on the mountain top or those great times at church that the enemy is waiting to try and steal our joy
- Jesus had boundaries and was no one was getting to the mountain until after he talks to the Father
- Some of us have forgotten he has the power because we complain about trivial stuff
- Jesus touches and cleanse the leper and Jesus is not contaminated (Matthew 8:2)
- Jesus healed a gentile (Matthew 8:5)
- The centurion knew he was not worthy (Matthew 8:8)
- We too are not worthy
- All of our righteousness is like filthy rags
- We must have the depth of faith to know that Jesus can heal with just a word
Key Sermon Points:
1. Jesus heals Peter's mother-in-law
- This tells us Peter was married
- Jesus often went by Peter's home
- We do not know the cause of the fever but because it was a high fever and she was too sick to get up suggests it was life threatening
- With one touch of Jesus' hand the fever vanished
- Jesus touches us all with his hand
- No believer is exempt from getting sick
- God may not give us what we want but he will give us what we need (2 Corinthians 12:8-9)
- Sometimes we must sit with a person long enough
- We must stop judging until we walk in their shoes and know what they are going through
- An ordinary fever would leave a person greatly weakened but the cure was instantaneous
2. Power over demons and various sickness
- Jesus healed because of his divine and loving compassion
- Jesus hates sickness and diseases because it was never part of God's design for mankind
- Jesus healed to give a preview of his coming kingdom which will have no more sin, death, sorry or pain
- Some of us come to church each and every day and do not even recognize who Jesus is
- Some people's behavior might indicate they are demon possessed
- Everything about Jesus was astonishing and marvelous
- They wanted Jesus to be their king but not their Lord and Savior
- We want Jesus to heal us but not control us
- Our sins will plague us on this side but not on the other side
- Diseases and death can not be permanent and he will remove it one day
- It does not matter how bad the situation is it will be alright as long as we cry out to him
