Background:

  • People that are carrying a child don't really know what she may be carrying (e.g. a prophet, a leader, someone great that God is wanting to use)
  • That's why abortion is wrong:
  • It's murder and against what God says;
  • We didn't give life so we can't take life;
  • God made our bodies
  • All the children in the womb are precious
  • Pharaoh tried to kill the Hebrews, but the more he tried that the more they multiplied
  • The more Pharaoh tried to oppress them the more they thrived and multiplied (Ex 1:12; 1:20)
  • Pharaoh resorted to genocide to kill every male child that was born
  • There were key figures that played a key part: women
  • In the Bible, there were women that God used mightily (e.g. Eve, Sarah, Rebecca, Rachel, Shipra, Moses' mom, Miriam, Rehab, Ruth, Mary, Elizabeth, Mary & Martha, Lydia, Pricilla, etc.)

Key Sermon Points:

1. They protected him

  • Moses' mother and father protected him (Exodus 6:20)
  • Moses is the main character at that time
  • His mother protected him during desperate times when Pharaoh issued an edict to murder all male children
  • His parents knew that there was something special about Moses at a young age
  • God specialize in things that are impossible and will move people when He wants and will use them (Jeremiah 1:5)
  • No one knows which child God already has His hands on before they were born and how God will use them
  • She knew that they were after the children, but what was she should do when her child was born under a death sentence?
  • She hid him for 3 months until she couldn't do it anymore (Hebrews 11:23)
  • They were not afraid of Pharaoh's edict
  • Moses' basket was his arc symbolizing salvation being saved from the enemy

2. Moses' parents demonstrated their faith

  • They could not hide him any longer because he was too old...and after a while he would probably be heard
  • Their faith was to put him in a basket in the Nile river and trust God
  • Instead of hiding Moses or killing Moses, they placed him in the basket in the Nile river and trusted God for his future
  • We must trust God
  • Miriam watched over the basket to see where it would go
  • They feared God more than they feared any man
  • Things will get worse, and our faith will be tested
  • We must trust God and live by faith because God has never let us down
  • There will come a time when parents must let their child(ren) go...and it will be difficult
  • Parents are sometimes scared to let their children go...but we must let them go and trust God to deal with them instead of being in the way
  • Even though parents let their kids go, the parents can still keep an eye on them out of love

3. God's sovereign encounter with Pharaoh's daughter

  • The arc was divinely guided to Pharaoh's house to Pharaoh's daughter
  • Pharaoh was trying to kill what he couldn't see and didn't know that the Deliverer was in his house...that shows God's sovereignty
  • God's sovereign hand was working in Pharaoh's heart despite her father's cruel edict/decree
  • She felt compassion for the crying Hebrew baby
  • God is so wonderful...even in the enemy's house where Moses was fed and educated in the best school
  • His mother got to spend more time together and was paid to nurse her own child!
  • When we trust God in faith, he will work it out!
  • We never know what God will do or how he will do it, but God always shows up!
  • Pharaoh's daughter made a dangerous choice to spare Moses' life
  • God used her
  • We never know what great plans God has in store for us...we don't trust him enough
  • Stop listening to "they" and start listening to God
  • God can always turn things around even when the enemy is up to his tricks
  • When Jesus is lifted up, He draws all men unto Him
