Dec. 28, 2025
Background:
- Christmas is a time of year families come together to celebrate the birth of Jesus
- The season is wonderful time filled with love, which was manifested in Jesus Christ
Key Sermon Points:
1. The wonders of God's love
- God is love and His love is immeasurable
- God promised that the seed of the woman was going to crush Satan's head (Genesis 3:14-15)
- The seed refers to the virgin birth (Isaiah 7:14)
- Jesus is the promise and God loved us that much to send His only begotten Son (John 3:16-17)
- God's love shows no favoritism
- Death for the believers is just a shadow (Psalm 23)
- It's important to give our lives to Christ
2. The wonders of Jesus' love
- Jesus loves us and his love knows no partiality for favor
- Why would Jesus love any of us enough to die for us?
- Jesus set His glory aside to come from Heaven to do the work of the Father (John 17:4-5; Revelations 22:4)
- Jesus showed us how to go through without sinning
- Jesus was conceived of the Holy Spirit
- Jesus, a King from Heaven, came being born as a child in a stable (Micah 5:2)
- Jesus, as a child, was teaching in the temple
- Everything in the Bible is because God wanted it so...and not by chance
- The Trinity is seen in the baptism of Jesus
- Jesus was tempted by Satan, and Jesus didn't wonder what to do...He responded with the Word of God
- Jesus came from perfection where He was never questioned, but was worshipped
- Yet He came to save the world...despite knowing that He would die for our sins
- Thus, we do not have to wonder about Jesus' love and that His love is the greatest gift to this world
3. The wonders of our love
- When we think of celebrating someone's birthday, we think about what to give them
- Yet on Jesus' birthday (i.e. Christmas), we buy gifts for others...and some tell their kids that the gifts are from Santa
- Now the world makes Christmas more about Santa than about Jesus
- Sin can start of small and then evolve into something bigger
- Have you ever wonder what Jesus wants from us on His birthday (instead of being caught up in the gift giving to each other)?
- Christmas is Jesus' birthday
- Jesus doesn't need silver and gold or material things...instead, we can share His love with the world
- Only 60+ percent of Christians think it's their job to witness to others...but it's all of our job to witness to others about Jesus
- It's not us, but the Holy Spirit that will convict and bring people to Christ
- Jesus laid down His life for us (1 John 3:16), and we ought to tell others about Him (as our gift to Him)
- Next year, before opening even one Christmas present, read the story of Christmas in Luke 2:1-20 because that's what Christmas is really about
- It's a time for us to tell others about Jesus
- We need to give love on Christmas and every day (1 Corinthians 13:13)
