Background:

  • Boldness should never be confused with recklessness
  • True boldness is the courage to press through fear and to do what is right even when it is difficult or dangerous (Acts 5:28-29)
  • In order for us to conquer fear we must press through
  • The devil wants to keep us in fear because he knows if he keeps us in fear we will never get done what God has called us to do
  • There are times where we are confronted to do things that are right and we must stand up and do what is right
  • We must fear God and not man
  • None of us get to where we want to go by the way we want to go
  • God designed our journey by his sovereign will
  • We might be blessed because of the people in our houses that are blessed
  • The only sin God tells us to run from is the sin of the flesh
  • No matter where we are God still shows up and shows us favor

Key Sermon Points:

1. God's people multiplied

  • Pharaoh had no appreciation for Joseph's character or activity
  • The people were increasing in number and they were fearful
  • It is going on today- if they can not control them let us take away their rights, oppress them, and put them in slavery
  • God's seed was blessed and multiplied because God was in control
  • Courage is vital because it enables us to overcome our fears and pursue our personal growth
  • If the devil can keep us quiet, he can take our testimony
  • The devil wants us to live in fear

2. Godless pressure mounted

  • Satan is working in the Pharaoh- allowing him to be paranoid
  • The more God's people are oppressed the church grew and flourished (Acts 8:1-4)
  • God did not bring the church together to stay lumped but to spread our and win souls for Christ
  • We must be careful what we ask for because the very thing we want may be what oppresses us
  • God will use who He wants to use to get us in line
  • God has a way of getting our attention

3. Courageous people risk their lives to do what's right

  • The midwives feared God and did not do what Pharaoh asked them to do- they believed in preserving life starting at the womb
  • No one can not stop what God has in plan
  • The midwives continued to bring the Hebrew children into the world- Pharaoh questioned their actions and the midwives told them the Israelite women are more lively and give birth fast before the women can get there
  • They took a stand and they were ready to die for what they believed
  • When we fear God He always shows up
  • The midwives were blessed because they stood up for right and righteousness
  • Shadrach, Meshach, Abednego, and Daniel are other examples of people who stood up for what was right
  • We all need a heart for God
  • We all need courage or we will never make it home
  • We all need a brain that God can speak to us and through us
  • We are all trying to get back home because this place is not home
  • Our flesh has a way of playing games with us
  • We always have a way back home we just do not see it and that is through Jesus Christ
  • Sometimes in life we must stand up for what is right
  • We can not be a coward about everything
  • We must stop hiding
