Background:
- We must see Jesus
- We all have a reservation with death that cannot be cancelled (Hebrew 9:27)
- There is no family plan...we must stand before the King for ourselves
Key Sermon Points:
- They hated Zacchaeus
- This was Jesus last time passing through Jericho on his way to the cross
- Zacchaeus was a wealthy chief tax collector that extracted more from his own people, which was a greater burden to them
- Thus, the Jews hated him
- He had the comfort and money that he could want, but was empty inside
- He sought to see Jesus
- Zacchaeus had some obstacles:
- He was small in stature
- He was self-conscious
- He had low self-esteem
- What is stopping people from seeing Jesus?
- Pride...God hates pride
- Self-righteousness
- The crowd blocked his access
- Zacchaeus climbed the tree and Jesus saw him
- Jesus knew who he was
- Jesus knows our names
- Jesus' personal call on his life
- All of us must understand that we have a personal call on our lives (e.g. Moses, Joshua, Samuel, his disciples, and us)
- He calls sinners to repentance (Luke 5:32)
- There's a call on our lives and we must listen to it and respond to the call
- He openly confess his sins
- When you come to Jesus people will talk about you
- The best thing that we can do is to give our lives to Jesus
- Zacchaeus gave his open confession of his sins and the crowd made fun of him
- All of us have sinned and come short of the glory of God
