Background:

  • When God is abandoned, the truth is abandoned
  • When truth is abandoned, then morals are abandoned
  • The Bible is God's eternal and infallible Word of God
  • Each and every Christian needs the Bible because without it we cannot make it

Key Sermon Points:

  1. The Bible gives us God's Command
    1. Three categories of law
      • Ceremonial (Leviticus 1:1-3) - how to do certain things (e.g. burnt sacrifice)
      • Civil (Deuteronomy 23:10-11) - applies to our daily living
      • Moral (Exodus 20:13) - reveals the nature and will of God & still applies today
    2. Jesus did not come to destroy the law, but to fulfill the law
    3. We still need to bring our worship to God with our best
    4. There are some things in the Civil law that no longer apply to us because
    5. Jesus already fulfilled it (Colossians 2:16-17)
  2. The Bible reveals the living God to us
    1. The angels asked the women why they were looking for Jesus among the dead (Luke 24:4-7)
    2. Jesus lives and we worship him in spirit and in truth
    3. He is risen indeed...and still lives and reigns in the hearts of Christians
    4. He is the Head of his church
    5. He is the Savior of our souls
    6. He allows us to operate
    7. He is the Lifter of our heads
    8. He is our shield
    9. He keeps us through storms
    10. He provides for us
    11. He heals us
    12. Do you look for Jesus among the living or do you look for him among the dead?
  3. The Bible introduces us to Jesus Christ
    1. Jesus is the fulfillment of the prophecies & better
    2. John introduced Jesus to the Jews and to us (John 1:1-5;29)
    3. Jesus says that heaven and earth will not pass away until everything in the Word (from Genesis to Revelation) is fulfilled
    4. The Pharisees' self-righteousness was:
      • External (Matthew 23:23-27) - it must be on the inside and not the outside
      • Partial (Matthew 23:23) - pay tithes, but dismiss other things
      • Redefined (Leviticus 11:44) - Know that they cannot be holy like God is holy & they don't desire to be holy like God so they change the meaning of holiness
    5. It is important to know what's in God's Word so that we can live according to it
