SunDAY: 9 AM Sunday School, 10:30AM Worship /TuesDAY 6 pm prayer/ WedNESDAY 6PM Bible study

Mar. 30, 2025

Background:

  • Today some churches are going along to get along
  • There are some things that need to be changed but in a right manner
  • If it does not align with God it is up to us Christians to step up and say something

Key Sermon Points:

1. Biblical examples

  • If we are going to speak in power make sure it is in God's power and not our own
  • Nathan should have checked with God before speaking (2 Samuel 7:4; 1 Corinthians 28:3)
  • We need to make sure if we are speaking truth to power we are speaking in God's truth and not our own because we can mess things up
  • Make sure before you make a decision you check in with God
  • David was a man after God's own heart, he sinned (2 Samuel 12)
  • None of us are right
  • When we step up and speak truth to power there will be consequences
  • David had repented (Psalm 51:1, 10-12)
  • If you come forward with a repenting heart God will forgive us
  • It is hard to speak truth to power, but we must trust God (James 5:19)
  • Sometimes we have to speak up instead of letting things go
  • Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego (Daniel 3:16-30)
  • Daniel in the lions den (Daniel 6:16)
  • In both cases they were elevated to new positions of power
  • Jesus not only spoke to those in the earthly realm but also to Satan in the spiritual realm
  • Jesus did not have a problem speaking truth to power and He too was elevated to a position of power on the cross, in the grave, being resurrected, and now being seated at the right hand of God with all power

2. Modern day examples

  • Abraham Lincoln- when he wanted to end slavery there was a civil war and then he was assassinated
  • Dietrich bon Hoffer- a German preacher that stood up to Hitler and was hanged
  • Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.- a preacher who spoke up for civil rights and he too was assassinated

3. Our decision

  • There will come a day when we  must speak truth to power
  • What will we do? Go with the flow? Stand our ground?
  • We must stand up for God's right and righteousness
  • God does not tempt us but he will test us
  • Jesus is watching to see if we will pick up our cross and trust and follow Him
