Background:

  •   There are many titles that refer to Jesus in the Bible
  •   Perhaps the most endearing title is The Good Shepherd
  •   He leads us in the path of righteousness
  •   Jesus is the True Shepherd and also the Good Shepherd that lays in the doorway

  1. The Shepherd dies for His sheep
    1. The Shepherd dies for his sheep
    2. Jesus identifies Himself as the Good Shepherd
    3. I Am identifies with God
    4. The Good Shepherd is set apart from all of the other shepherds...none can match Him or step next to Him
    5. It references to His perfect and authentic character in a class by Himself
    6. Being the faithful Shepherd involves putting His life on the line for us willingly
    7. He protects His sheep and makes sure that they are safe
  2. The Good Shepherd loves His sheep
    1. Jesus is love
    2. He knows His own
    3. Only Jesus will separate the wheat from the tares
    4. Jesus loves us
    5. Believers are caught up in the deep intimate affection shared between
    6. God the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit
    7. If we love God, then we will keep His Word (John 14:21, 23)
  3. The Good Shepherd unites His sheep
    1. Just because people don't attend this church doesn't mean that they are not saved
    2. Just because a person isn't the same color as us doesn't mean that they are not saved
    3. Jesus is talking about the Jews and the Gentiles
    4. Jesus' great desire was that his disciples would be united as one, unified that people might know we belong to Jesus Christ
    5. Are you helping to unify the body of Christ?
    6. What are you doing to help the church be built up and not torn down?
    7. Are you encouraging others?
    8. Are you praying for other Christians?
    9. Are you avoiding gossip?
    10. Are you building up others?
    11. Are you working together in harmony and not disharmony?
    12. The Gentiles will also hear the calling of Jesus and become one flock with Jews (Isaiah 49:6; Romans 1:16)
