Services

SunDAY: 9 AM Sunday School, 10:30AM Worship /TuesDAY 6 pm prayer/ WedNESDAY 6PM Bible study

Jun. 22, 2025

Background:

  • All of us are dealing with all kinds of sickness in our lives
  • Jesus is the only one that can cure our sickness
  • He is the Great Healing Physician
  • He can heal broken hearts
  • He specializes in things that are impossible
  • He can heal our mind, our body, our soul, and our spirit
  • What Jesus said in Matthew was the Word of God that his Father gave him
  • What he did was the work of God
  • He didn't say one thing and do something else
  • He did what the Word told him to do
  • Some are sick because of their own foolishness; others suffer because of their sins

Key Sermon Points:

1. Jesus was concerned about the whole person

  • Jesus was concerned about us getting the whole healing - the physical and spiritual needs of a person
  • Jesus used their synagogues to bring forth the Word
  • Sometimes we have to take advantage of a platform to let people know about Jesus
  • Jesus showed his commitment by preaching
  • Jesus showed his concern for wholeness when he healed others
  • We need to be able to hear what the Lord has to say
  • We need to be taught the Word
  • We have to be healed personally
  • The greatest tragedy for the Jews was disfellowship
  • Many Jews who recognized the truth of the Gospel refused to become a Christian because of the certainty of being put out of the synagogue (John 12:42-43)
  • The Jews thought more about the synagogue than they did about the Savior
  • We must stand up for truth and righteousness

2. His Healing

  • Not only did He teach and preach in the synagogue, but he began to heal
  • His Word should have been significant evidence of his Messiahship
  • The disciples left everything to follow Jesus
  • John recognized Jesus before he knew him (John 1:29)
  • The disciples recognized that they were in the presence of a Holy and Divine God
  • Moses represented the Law and Elijah represented the Prophets, but they were not on the same level as Jesus
  • The wondrous healing showed that God is compassionate towards those that are suffering (Matthew 9:36)
  • Jesus has compassion and mercy on us
  • The miracle showed that Jesus was the prophesized Messiah as stated in the Old Testament
  • The miracles showed that the coming Kingdom was a reality...the miracles were a foretaste
  • Jesus went to prepare a place for people that are prepared (John 14:1-6)
  • There was spiritual healing
    • Jesus was the only One that had power to cast out demons...and then he passed that power down to the disciples
    • Demons recognized who Jesus was, but his own people didn't
    • Jesus never dealt with demons by having a conversation with them, but by giving the Word
  • There was mental healing
  • There was physical healing
  • Jesus did all manner of healing

3. Jesus did not discriminate when he healed

  • Jesus healed all sick people...and he did not discriminate
  • We have a God that does not discriminate...he extended his healing grace to everybody regardless of their walk, their social status, their perceived uncleanliness
  • In the midst of the 10 lepers, only one Gentile said Thank You
  • We can't forget about the One that did the healing
  • We ought to have the attitude of gratitude
  • His ministry was rooted in love and compassion
  • His healing focused on relieving suffering of the sick
  • Jesus did special things and rarely did it the same way
  • Looking at Jesus impacting a great multitude of sorts...his healing was so great that they brought people from near and far
  • Jesus did so much healing that they did not record it all
  • What kind of impact do we have on the people in our circle: is it positive or negative?
  • Jesus had a positive impact on the people
  • It is important for us to have a positive impact
  • Where are the multitudes today? They are not in the church...we can't pick and choose who to witness to
  • Jesus healed many:
    • A leper (Matthew 8:1-4)
    • A Centurion's servant (Matthew 8:5-13)
    • Peter's mother-in-law (Matthew 8:15-16)
    • A man with withered hand (Matthew 12:9-14)
    • Others (Matthew 15:21-28; Mark 5:25-34; Mark 10:46; Luke 7:11-17, John 5:1-9)
