1. Having the right heart for God
   1. Our commitment to God should be whole heartedly or don't do it at all
   2. We need to serve God whole heartedly...give it fully to God (Matthew 22:37)
   3. It is important to understand that we are working for God and ought to give him our best
   4. God's primary concern is with the heart (1 Samuel 16:7)
   5. We need to filter our emotions, our thoughts, our desires through God's Word (1 John 3:19-20)
   6. Joshua was considering that some of the Israelites were wavering in their commitment to the Lord and were challenging them to be sincere
   7. Seek the things which are above (Colossians 3:1)
   8. Believers enter into Christ's death and resurrection at the time of conversion and are now alive with him
2. Remember how far God has brought you
   1. We should remember God's blessings in the past
   2. Remember who delivered you
   3. God is still keeping us even though we are not all that we should be
   4. It is sometimes easy for us to take God for granted when things are going well
   5. We should remember to seek God everyday of our lives
   6. We should remember his constant care for us
   7. A life without God will produce a lonely, bitter life (Deut. 8:2)
   8. We need a life that is centered on God
   9. It is important for our house and other generations that we stand up and serve the Lord
