Background from Part 1:
We have been chosen by God (be separate)
The things we should put on (tender mercies, compassionate, kind, humility, meekness, longsuffering)
Jesus is the model of forgiveness (we must forgive because Christ forgave us)
Key Sermon Points (continued):
4. Love should be the belt that pulls everything together
- Love is the most important thing in a believer's life
- We are to love God with our whole heart and soul and we are to love our neighbors
- Love is the glue that holds the church together in unity
- Everything that we do is to be done in love (motivated by unconditional love)
- We can't forgive one another unless we love one another (1 Corinthians 13:1-3)
- We don't have true unity without true love
- Loving God is the greatest human act
- Love is supernatural because it is given by God
- Supernatural love is poured into the believer (Romans 5:5)
- God is the Source and Creator of love
- Love has no barriers
- A believer must have love
5. The Word of Christ should be important
- Believers ought to meditate on God's Word (Matthew 4:1-7)
- We can't live independently of God
- Jesus continuously used the Word, and we should too
- Let the Word of God take up room in our lives and hearts
- The truth of the Scripture should permeate every aspect of the believer's life: thoughts, words, and deeds (Matthew 13:9; 2 Timothy 2:15-16; Psalm 119:11)
- Reading God's Word disciplines us
6. We should have the peace of Christ
- Believers ought to have peace even in the midst of trials and tribulation
- Because of embracing Jesus as Savior we are no longer enemies of God
- The peace of God shall guard our hearts and minds
- The peace of Christ guides the believers in making decisions and living in unity and harmony with each other (Philippians 4:7)
- We can't have true peace without Jesus Christ
- We have peace with God and the peace of God, which allows us to have unity
7. Being thankful at all times
- We are called to be thankful
- We ought to have the attitude of gratitude
- We ought to thank God for ALL that He has done
- Thankfulness ought to be a part of every day
- Being truly thankful must also be demonstrated not just spoken (Psalm 92:1-2)
8. Everything we do should be done in the name of the Lord
- Do everything in the name of the Lord because there is power and access in Jesus
- Jesus has all power
- We have access to the kingdom through Jesus
- In the name of Jesus:
- Demons must flee
- Healing takes place
- Our focus should shift
- There is freedom
- So, it's important to reference Jesus name because it's not about us
- When we call on the name of Jesus, there is power
- Jesus' power is unlimited...not finite, and goes well beyond our abilities
- Without Jesus, there is no meaning in life
- Jesus ought to be EVERYTHING to a believer
