Background:

• There are a number of religious leaders that have come and died
• Paul urged Timothy to remember Jesus Christ, the one who rose from the dead...the only One that has done that
• Jesus Christ is alive
• He is also a descendant of David, the King of Kings
• It's important because it should dictate how we live
• As Born Again Believers, we have to remember at all times Jesus Christ

Key Sermon Points:

1. Suffer for the Savior

• Paul suffered hardships without fighting back (even imprisonment) for the Gospel
• Sometimes we have to suffer for the Gospel because we don't know how others may be watching & respond to our response
• Sometimes when we are going through things, it has a rippling effect reaching others where we cannot
• When a person lives and preaches the Gospel, he will cause problems...not everyone will cheer
• The Gospel also offends, but the Gospel is not chained
• Paul had to learn through some hard times
• Parents/grandparents let your kids suffer so that they learn how to endure
• Paul was treated like a criminal
• Paul suffered for the ones that God chose
• Paul stood up to Peter about how to treat others
• Paul spoke out about racism against Believers

2.  Support for the saints

• Paul supported the saints
• We can support other believers as follows:
• Learn to pray for brothers and sisters in the faith (and don't assume...ask for their prayer requests)
• Learn to give encouraging words
• Learn to support without tearing down (don't bash saints)
• God intentionally placed us in our families...and it is the same in the Body of Christ...and we are stuck with each other so learn to support the saints
• God has given us everything that we need to support each other
• God allows us to speak peace even when we are mistreated
• Jesus is always looking...He is always aware of what we have done
• We don't have the right to slander one another

3. Salvation for the soldiers

• We are the conduits for others to come to know Jesus as Savior
• We ought to live in a way that we are promoting and displaying who Christ is
• It's not what would Jesus do, it's what did Jesus do (e.g. feed the hungry, accept the outcast, help those hurting without a church name or church support)
