Background:
- Wars are decided by people and impact people that have nothing to do with the war
- Many people become casualties because of decisions that they have nothing to do with
- There will be decisions made in government that will impact each of us
- We know that the world needs Jesus Christ
- We are also vulnerable to decisions made by others that will impact us and generations to come
- We can become discouraged based upon what is going on in the world today
- David was in a place of despair and depression and his enemies were after him
Key Sermon Points:
- Diagnosis of His Deficiencies
- David started with himself and asked God to teach him how to live
- We need to ask God to teach us how to pray and how to read his Word
- Instead of looking for solutions, we need to look for instructions from God
- David asked God to help him understand your path
- The real need was Divine Guidance
- God has to deal with us before he deals with the situation
- Instead of David asking God to deal with his enemies, he asked God to deal with him first
- Divine Protection
- Sometimes the enemy comes with deep rooted things
- David asked God for protection from his enemies
- Some will despise us for who will love and serve
- Some will thirst for our blood like they thirst after David's blood and
- David's bloodline
- We must also ask God for divine protection not just for ourselves, but for others that are coming behind us
- We must set our minds on things above for we are already seated in heavenly places
- The enemy wanted to stop Jesus from going to the cross
- Deliverance from Despair
- David didn't feel like he could make it and was about to give up and loose hope
- He was looking at the problem instead of looking at God
- If David hadn't seen the goodness of God, he would not have been able to exercise his faith
- David asked for deliverance from his despair
- We can reach out to the Lord when we go through those heavy things of despair
- We need to stop looking for things outside of the goodness of the Lord
- Faith prevents us from loosing hope and gives us a sense of comfort when we practice faith
- We need to think about all the times God was good to us
- We sometimes need time to marinate in the goodness of the Lord
- The Lord delivers us!
- There's nothing like the goodness of the Lord or the hope of eternal life
- Discipline
- David understood that his stronger self had to challenge his weaker self
- It takes discipline to wait...to wait on the Lord
- What God is doing with us while we are waiting is important
- Sometimes we have to encourage ourselves
- We have to discipline ourselves...and say No to somethings
- We have to develop discipline, which is why we must learn to wait on the Lord
- We should think of the goodness of God daily
