Background:

  • Wars are decided by people and impact people that have nothing to do with the war
  • Many people become casualties because of decisions that they have nothing to do with
  • There will be decisions made in government that will impact each of us
  • We know that the world needs Jesus Christ
  • We are also vulnerable to decisions made by others that will impact us and generations to come
  • We can become discouraged based upon what is going on in the world today
  • David was in a place of despair and depression and his enemies were after him

 Key Sermon Points:

  1. Diagnosis of His Deficiencies
    1. David started with himself and asked God to teach him how to live
    2. We need to ask God to teach us how to pray and how to read his Word
    3. Instead of looking for solutions, we need to look for instructions from God
    4. David asked God to help him understand your path
    5. The real need was Divine Guidance
    6. God has to deal with us before he deals with the situation
    7. Instead of David asking God to deal with his enemies, he asked God to deal with him first
  2. Divine Protection
    1. Sometimes the enemy comes with deep rooted things
    2. David asked God for protection from his enemies
    3. Some will despise us for who will love and serve
    4. Some will thirst for our blood like they thirst after David's blood and
    5. David's bloodline
    6. We must also ask God for divine protection not just for ourselves, but for others that are coming behind us
    7. We must set our minds on things above for we are already seated in heavenly places
    8. The enemy wanted to stop Jesus from going to the cross
  3. Deliverance from Despair
    1. David didn't feel like he could make it and was about to give up and loose hope
    2. He was looking at the problem instead of looking at God
    3. If David hadn't seen the goodness of God, he would not have been able to exercise his faith
    4. David asked for deliverance from his despair
    5. We can reach out to the Lord when we go through those heavy things of despair
    6. We need to stop looking for things outside of the goodness of the Lord
    7. Faith prevents us from loosing hope and gives us a sense of comfort when we practice faith
    8. We need to think about all the times God was good to us
    9. We sometimes need time to marinate in the goodness of the Lord
    10. The Lord delivers us!
    11. There's nothing like the goodness of the Lord or the hope of eternal life
  4. Discipline
    1. David understood that his stronger self had to challenge his weaker self
    2. It takes discipline to wait...to wait on the Lord
    3. What God is doing with us while we are waiting is important
    4. Sometimes we have to encourage ourselves
    5. We have to discipline ourselves...and say No to somethings
    6. We have to develop discipline, which is why we must learn to wait on the Lord
    7. We should think of the goodness of God daily
