Putting Your Faith on the Line

Services

SunDAY: 9 AM Sunday School, 10:30AM Worship /TuesDAY 6 pm prayer/ WedNESDAY 6PM Bible study

Aug. 09, 2026

Background:

  • Many people in the bible put their faith on the line for God
  • They show us there is a certain amount of risk (Genesis 44:18 & Matthew 14)
  • We all have a measure of faith until we start taking our eyes off Jesus

Key Sermon Points:

1. We see faith on the line in a haunting place

  • This served as a place of refuge during a difficult week
  • Gethsemane means a place where you press olives; a place where you will be squeezed and Jesus was going to be squeezed
  • Find a garden this week where we can pray
  • We should all have a place where we can steal away and pray
  • Stand watch and pray

2.  We see faith on the line in the midst of disappointing partners

  • Our dilemma that we have when we put our faith on the line is we are alone when we do it
  • God the father is always with us, especially during difficult times
  • Sometimes we may have to go through it alone
  • We must learn to lean on Jesus during the difficult time because we all have them
  • We often do not speak of them but they are there and a testimony for others
  • Continue to praise God in the midst of it all
  • If god takes us to it, he WILL bring us through it
  • If God is working something out on the inside he will also work it out on the outside
  • Jesus prayed in agony and through his supernatural strength he learned the cross was unavoidable if he does his father's will
  • If God calls us to do something we must do it

3. We see faith on the line through intense pain

  • We must trust him and step out on faith
  • Rarely do we advance in faith without difficulties
  • Our faith becomes stronger when we go through something
  • There is no testimony without a test
  • Urgent pray will save them from falling into temptation
  • Jesus knew his followers were going to go through something; He knew how important it was to pray
  • We are week but he is strong
  • Knowing that the testing of your faith reduces patience
  • God gives us what we need when he calls us to do it

4. We see faith on the line through earnest prayer

  • Jesus learned obedience through suffering what makes us think it will be any different for us
  • Jesus prayed in agony but now he rises in poise to meet his betrayers
  • We must go to the cross for the purpose we were sent
  • Jesus faced his betrayers and was different when he came out then when he went in
  • Prayers to our heavenly father changes things
  • Prayer is essential to our spirit without prayer our spirit is dead
  • We should pray without ceasing
  • Jesus prays a lot of this father realizing that is his source of power (John 11:41-43)
  • Jesus prays three prayers (John 17):
    • Jesus prays for himself
    • Jesus prays for his disciples
    • Jesus prays for his future believers
  • Jesus sent us into the world and we are his disciples
  • Jesus prayed for us
  • As the father sent Jesus he sent us
